TFC North America opens in Daly City
DALY CITY, CA — It was a momentous occasion for The Filipino Channel, on its grand opening of the new North America corporate office of ABS-CBN International at 2001 Junipero Serra Boulevard in Daly City, CA.
“The business is evolving and I think the way it’s evolving is that we know want to be engaged with our customers not just through the television set but engage them by going to where they are — and clearly, Daly City is where the Filipinos are,” said TFC Chief Operating Officer Raffy Lopez.
The event was attended by TFC’s chief operating officer and his family, TFC’s managing director for North America Chinky de Jesus, ABS-CBN’s chief operating officer of broadcast, Cory Vidanes, and Ging Reyes, head of the ABS-CBN news and current affairs division, and former news bureau chief for North America.
Local elected officials, community leaders, as well as kapamilya stars also graced the event, along with employees of the company.
23 years ago, The Filipino Channel had its beginnings here in Daly City. Now the company is back to the very heart of the Filipino community, here in the San Francisco Bay Area.
After starting in Daly City, ABS-CBN International’s North America headquarters moved to various cities in the Bay Area, including Brisbane, Burlingame and Redwood City.
Now the company is back to where it all began.
“In Daly City, our constituents are mostly Asian Pacific islanders and Filipinos — 56%,” said Mayor Glenn Sylvester excitedly. “To have ABS-CBN here, we couldn’t ask for a better company to be here.”
“We’re very happy that TFC decided to relocate here in Daly City because it is ineed is where the Filipino community is,” said SF Consul General Henry Bensurto. “For TFC to be here, you can say, is at the very heart of the Filipino community, it’s up close, personal.”
Kapamilya star Xian Lim grew up in the Daly City area, and he’s excited for what’s yet to come for TFC subscribers.
“I lived a couple of blocks away from this place. I remember just walking to the movie theaters and stuff,” Lim said. “Mainly, it’s because there’s a lot of Filipinos in this area, and it’s really close to our hearts. TFC brings so much joy to the Filipinos.”
“TFC makes home closer to them. and alam ko na maraming filipino talaga na homesick,” said Jodi Sta. Maria. “Nagpapasalamat, hindi lang ako, kundi maraming pilipino sa TFC, kasi kahit papaano through the shows na ginagawa ng TFC, napapalapit ang Pilipinas at ang pamilya nila sa kanila.”
Besides the studio and office spaces on the second floor, TFC also has a retail store at the ground floor of the building where kapamilya fans can avail of items featuring their favorite stars.
