LOS ANGELES— A week before the Oscar awards, ‘Asians on Film Festival’ was held in Hollywood on Sunday, which showcased Filipino actors, producers, writers, and directors.

Participant filmmaker Jerell Rosales said the industry knows how to identify true talent, and they eventually take notice regardless of who you know in the industry. He also said he is doing his part in featuring Filipino stories in the mainstream.

“Growing up, I knew that I didn’t have enough Filipino– There are not enough stories out there,” said Rosales. “I really want other Filipinos to feel proud when they see it, that this is a movie that represents a small part of us.”

Eileen Soong won, who won best supporting actress for the short film, “born to dance this way”, said Filipino roles in Hollywood films are hard to come by. She added young hopefuls should create their own opportunities to showcase their talents, and the independent cinema community in Hollywood is the best avenue to show Oscar-worthy projects.
