PH DFA says Avancena, Duterte’s common-law wife, not part of official PH delegation to UN GA
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s common-law wife, Honeylet Avancena, was seen in New York City amid the annual convention of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs says Avancena is not part of the official Philippine delegation to the UN GA, but she has been invited to participate in some of the side meetings as part of her advocacy work.
She was also spotted watching Miss Saigon at the Broadway theater Tuesday night.
The Philippine mission in New York is not offering any official statement on Avancena’s role at the UN GA. The Philippine consulate in NY has referred BA’s questions to the Philippine mission.
The Philippine embassy in Washington DC has also not responded to BA’s inquiries about Avancena’s role at the UN GA and if the Philippine government is indeed paying for her trip to New York.
Meanwhile, President Duterte skipped the UN assembly to attend to the Narawi crisis in the Philippines. He is being represented to the world body by his foreign affairs secretary, Alan Peter Cayetano.
Leaders of some Filipino Anerican groups are weighing in on the presence of Duterte’s common-law wife, Honeylet, in New York amid the general assembly.
