GLENDALE, Calif–Hundreds packed Glendale’s Alex Theater to watch Pokwang’s new movie, “A Mother’s Story,” and by the end of the film, many left the theater in tears.

“Nakaka iyak sya meron touch ng comedy but it was very touching kasi I’m sure marami nakaka relate (The movie is a tear-jerker. It had touch of comedy, but was very touching. I’m sure many can relate to the story), said one viewer as she exited the theater.

Shot in the United States, A Mother’s Story stars Pokwang who plays the role of a mother who decides to overstay her visa to become an OFW to support her family. As she takes a job as a housekeeper, she was separated from her family and dealt with the hardships of life in America.

Pokwang herself was once a real life overseas Filipino worker.

“Nailabas ko talaga yung naramdaman ko noon as an OFW. Lalu na at nalayo ako sa anak ko. (I was able to express how I felt back when I was an OFW, especially when I was separated from my child),” said Pokwang.

“This is the first project of TFC and we dedicate this first project of TFC the many OFWs . You know there are 9.5 million Filipinos outside the country so this is for all the parents and children left behind in the Philippines,” creator and director John D. Lazatin said.
Many of the real life overseas Filipino workers say the drama was a hit because they were able to relate to the family portrayed in the film.

“Pumunta ako dito sa America so para mag trabaho para sa mga anak ko. Naka-iyak. Ang ganda nang palabas talaga (I came to America to be able to provide for my children. It was a touching film indeed ,” said Maribel Rosales, who has been working in Los Angeles as a waitress for the past five years.

A Mother’s story will be playing in 22 cities nationwide and Canada.
