Meet Ateneo Eaglet and Batang Gilas baller, Kai Sotto

LAS VEGAS — In this BA exclusive, Bev Llorente meets the towering, talented Ateneo Blue Eaglet and Batang Gilas basket-baller Kai Sotto.

At 6’11, 14-year-old Sotto is indeed the tallest among the junior basketball players training at Impact Basketball in Las Vegas.

“Sobrang blessed sobrang saya ko na mag practice dito sa impact lalo na mga kasabay ko mga yung mga mag papa draft na sa NBA sabe ko kaya magandang experience to para sakin,” Sotto shared.

Kai Sotto, who is a basketball superstar with Ateneo Blue Eagles and Batang Gilas, says that he uses his height as an advantage in the ball game.

“Sa lahat siempre advantage yung height kase di matuturo yung height diba kaya para sa akin nakuha ko na yung height pag hihirapan ko pang makuha yung skills para mas advantage ka palalo.”

“Yung mga nag titraining dito mga NBA prospects the one who is playing in the NCAA division at least alam nya kung nasaan siya nasaang level siya ng basketball,” said assistant coach Ford Arao.

Sotto says that training here in Vegas is a dream come true, since this is his first time in the United States with his his dad, former PBA star Ervin Sotto.

“Nag improve ako may natutunan pa akong bago tsaka malaki pala yung maittutulong para sakin. Yun nga working hard, dito puro individuals puro skills na dagdagdagan yung skills ko.”

“Makatulong ito sa basketball career niya di lang sa basketball sa buhay niya rin,” shared his father, Ervin. “Yung footwork niya yung shooting form niya yung mga spots na nakaka kailangan nakaka shoot siya nandun tapos merung mga kulang pa din sinasabe ko sa kanya na pag igihan niya kase di naman maituturo ng mga coach niya sinasabe ko lang as a father.”

Aside from gearing up for back to school, Soto is now gearing up for the Nike Elite camp in China.
