Fil-Am All-Star Addison Russell under probe for alleged domestic violence and abuse
CHICAGO, IL — 23-year old Fil-Am shortstop Addison Russell, who played a prominent role in winning the Chicago Cubs’ World Series championship last season, is under scrutiny over accusations of infidelity and domestic violence.
Melisa Russell, Russell’s half-Filipina wife, posted on Instagram a photo of herself with the caption: “Being free to be able to make your own choices for your own happiness beats being cheated on, lied to, & disrespected any day.”
Melisa’s friend, in another post, accused Russell of mentally and physically abusing Melisa.
Last year, Addison, had a .238 batting average, 21 home runs and 95 RBIs.
This year, Addison is batting .209 with 3 home runs and 19 RBIs.
Sports analysts say Russell is not performing to the standard that made him an All-Star last year.
In an exclusive statement to BA, Addison’s mother Milany Russell says, “Divorce should be a private matter. We, his family, will continue to support our son, and believe his allegations of abuse is false. We will continue to pray for both Addison and Melisa as they go through this terrible break up.”
Cubs’ President, Theo Epstein said Thursday in a press conference that the team is going to act appropriately and at this time, there is no suspension.
Although the social media posts have been deleted, fans in Chicago’s Filipino community were in shock.
