CA Fil-Am Chief Justice speaks out against Trump’s immigration policies
Top Filipina-American Judge, Tani Cantil-Sakauye, issued a strong message to the Trump administration over its immigration policies.
Cantil-Sakauye is the Chief Justice of California’s Supreme Court.
She issued a letter to US Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly on Thursday, writing that she is troubled by reports that federal agents are stalking undocumented immigrants at California’s courthouses, to make arrests.
“Courthouses should not be used as bait in the necessary enforcement of our country’s immigration law,” wrote the high-ranked judge.
Judge Cantil-Sakauye added that the presence of immigration agents could undermine public trust in the state’s court system, which serves millions of Californians.
So far, there has been no comment from the Trump administration on Cantil-Sakauye’s letter.
